Under the Oak
Growing together, rain or shine.
We believe our collective well-being depends on how we support children as they grow.
Like the oak tree at the heart of our space, our work is grounded in strong roots, connection to each other, to our community, and to the land we share.
Catkin Program
For children 12–36 months
Monday–Thursday
8:45 am – 3:15 pm.
$10 a Day.
At the heart of the Catkin Program is a focus on relationships, with each other, the land, and the community.
Our days begin with a morning adventure through the neighbourhood, where toddlers are invited to explore, connect with the land, and move at their own pace. And we gather to share wholesome snacks and moments of connection throughout the day.
With a strong caregiver-to-child ratio, we are able to support each child as they lead their own discoveries. Educators gently guide children in taking just enough risk to build strength, confidence, and independence within a supportive peer environment.
Acorn Program
For children 30 months to school aged
Monday - Thursday
8:45 am - 3:15 pm
$10 a day.
The Acorn Program is rooted in a play-based, child-led approach, where learning unfolds through curiosity, exploration, and connection. Educators support children by gently guiding their play, allowing ideas and interests to grow naturally and collaboratively.
Spending time outdoors is a central part of each day, with regular adventures through nearby forests, trails, and gardens. Indoors, children are offered a range of materials and activities that support creativity, movement, and imaginative play.
With space for both active exploration and quiet moments, the Acorn Program fosters independence, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging within the group.
Adventure School

Fridays, September–June
9:30am -2:30 pm
$10 a day
Island Adventure School is an outdoor program that encourages children to explore the elements and familiarize themselves with our island home. Each week we adventure through forests, along trails, and in shared outdoor spaces, empowering children to develop a strong sense of place, belonging, and connection to the natural world.
Learning unfolds through experience, with opportunities for curiosity, creativity, and collaboration woven throughout the day. Children are encouraged to take safe risks, build confidence, and deepen their relationships with both their peers and the environment around them.

-
Every child has the right to feel welcome, valued, and included. We create space for each child’s unique experiences, identities, and ways of being.
-
We honour our island home through daily outdoor play, exploration, and learning that reflects the rhythms of the natural world. We recognize Indigenous peoples as original knowledge keepers and continue to learn from and with the land.
-
Children are at the centre of the learning journey. Through play, curiosity, and exploration, we support the development of language, relationships, and independence.
-
Families and educators work together to support each child. We value open communication and strong partnerships within our community, and with partner organizations.
-
We support children in building respectful relationships, understanding their emotions, and caring for each other and the world around them.
-
We support ongoing professional growth, work to be exemplary employers, and grow to meet the ongoing needs of our community.
